How to Keep Your Crystal and Glass Awards and Trophies Shining

First of all, congratulations on your recent achievement! Now that you’ve received your shiny crystal or glass award, you want to keep it looking as good as the day you received it. One of the many benefits of glass and crystal awards and trophies is that they are simple and easy to clean and maintain, unlike other award materials.

Displaying your glass and crystal trophies and awards creates a huge sense of achievement, and therefore, you want those hard-earned awards and trophies to take pride of place and ensure they’re always looking their best. Unfortunately, many people fail to keep their awards clean or use the wrong methods, causing them to accidentally damage the award.

However, it really isn’t hard to keep your crystal and glass trophies and awards looking their absolute best. With just a few basic cleaning supplies and steps, your awards and trophies will be sparkling clean.

Cleaning Your Glass or Crystal Awards

To keep your prized awards and trophies in their best condition we recommend that you start by dusting your award as often as once a week to prevent any dust build-up, however, this can vary depending on the air quality of your office or home. There is no need for abrasive dusting appliances or chemicals, a simply feather duster or microfibre cloth will do the job.

However, sometimes your stunning crystal or glass award will need some additional care and cleaning. For this, we recommend using a cleaning solution. Below we have provided our 3 top solutions for keeping your glass or crystal awards and trophies sparkling clean.

3 Glass Cleaning Solutions for Cleaning Your Glass or Crystal Awards

  1. White Vinegar

A white vinegar and warm water solution is a great inexpensive and easy to hand cleaning solution for your glass and crystal trophies and awards. The vinegar and water solution effectively cleans away difficult to remove stains and dirt. For the solution simply mix 1 part vinegar with 2 parts warm water. If the vinegar had left a strong odour simply rinse the award or trophy thoroughly and dry.

  1. Soap and water

For lightly blemished glass and crystal, a soapy water solution will do the trick. Simply take a soapy sponge and wipe down the trophy or award, ensuring to be careful or any delicate parts or non-glass areas that may not be water safe. Once clean, rinse and dry thoroughly.

  1. Glass Cleaner

For optimum cleaning, a commercial-grade glass cleaner is sure to leave your awards and trophies sparkling. Additionally, it should be able to tackle any dirt and stains which the other two solutions are unable to deal with.

Top Tips When Cleaning Your Awards & Trophies

  • Never spray the cleaner directly onto the award. Always spray the cleaner onto a soft, clean cloth or soft paper towel and wipe the award until it’s glistening and shiny.
  • From experience, we find that it’s best not to use a multi-purpose cleaner as they tend to leave streaks that can be hard to remove.
  • If the award or trophy features a base made from a different material, such as wood, be sure to avoid getting any cleaning product onto the base.

How Often Should You Clean Your Awards & Trophies?

We recommend that you dust or wipe down your awards and trophies as often as once a week to keep dust and other particles at bay. However, this can vary depending on the environment in which the trophies and awards are displayed. For example, trophies and awards stored in a display cabinet may only need cleaning once a month, compared to trophies and awards on display in an open room with heavy footfall.

However, when it comes to giving them a thorough clean, we recommend you do this as and when it’s required, to prevent over cleaning and causing unnecessary damage.
